Kampamba Chikwanda & Daka Steven

DOI: https://doi.org/10.56293/IJMSSSR.2023.4701

ABSTRACT: The study explored the data governance policy in Zambia's health sector, focusing on big data. To fully realize the potential of data in our digital age, proper data governance is required. However, questions have been expressed concerning Zambia's health sector's ability to exploit data as a valuable resource due to the state of data governance. This study attempts to address this critical issue and shed light on the functions of big data governance aspects in the health sector. This work is significant because it has the potential to improve healthcare service quality, decision-making, and resource allocation through strong data governance. This study aims to bridge the gap between data governance and the requirements of big data in the Zambian health sector by reviewing existing policies, procedures, and practices. A mixed methods approach is used in the research, involving qualitative interviews with key informants and secondary data analysis. To get a full understanding of data governance difficulties, practices, and their alignment with big data demands, thematic and content analysis methodologies were used. The findings show that data governance is critical to managing data in the health sector, yet gaps in governance procedures impede the efficient implementation of ICT efforts. These concerns are exacerbated by challenges relating to competent human resources and ICT infrastructure. Accountability and transparency are also identified as areas for improvement. While this study offers insight on the existing state of affairs, it recognizes its limits and advocates for further research to investigate specific aspects of policy implementation. Nonetheless, this study contributes significantly to the field of big data and data governance in the Zambian health sector, encouraging stakeholders to work for an ICT driven, data-governed future that promotes openness, accountability, and improved healthcare results. Finally, this article emphasizes the importance of improving data governance procedures in Zambia's health sector, as well as the transformative potential of big data in healthcare as a catalyst for good change in the country's healthcare environment.

ABSTRACT: The stiff competition from both local and international players continues to cause unrest in the retail sector resulting to poor performance. This study sought to determine the moderating role of performance appraisal on affective commitment and employee performance in Supermarkets, in Kericho County. The study targeted 357 employees of all the Supermarkets in Kericho County. A sample size of 189 was determined using Yamane’s sample size formula and a stratified random sampling was utilized to select the actual respondents. Structured questionnaires were used to collect requisite data which were subjected to Hierarchical multiple regression for test of both direct and indirect effects of respective study variables. Study findings indicated that affective commitment (β = 0.975, p<0.0001) had a significant and positive effect on employee performance as evidenced by R2 of 0.63. The study found that performance appraisal significantly moderated the relationship between affective commitment and employee performance by improving the predictive power of the regression model from 62.7% to 95.4%. Organizations should put in place a fair, sensible and reasonable performance appraisal system to enable high performance in view of the positive moderating effect on the relationship between affective commitment and employee performance.

5. Determining the factors for individual credit approval by applying logistic regression and hierarchical logistic regression

Ayse YILDIZ 1

DOI: https://doi.org/10.56293/IJMSSSR.2023.4705

ABSTRACT: There has been a rapid increase in applications made to lending institutions due to the inadequacy of individuals' savings to meet their growing demands and needs. However, specific criteria are expected from individuals for the approval of these applications. Various methods have been developed to accurately determine these criteria and facilitate the loan approval process efficiently and promptly. Despite being the most used method, binary logistic regression has its limitations. These include the simultaneous inclusion of all variables in the analysis, the oversight of control variables that could be determined by decision-makers, and the evaluation of each event within the group of the same variables. In an attempt to address these limitations, hierarchical logistic regression analysis was performed alongside binary logistic regression analysis. The study incorporated variables indicating individual characteristics, such as age, socio-demographic characteristics like occupation and account status, and loan attributes, including duration and installment rate. The study obtained 1000 loan applicants, and the models were evaluated based on the goodness of fit results and the explanatory power of the models. Although the study produced similar results in determining the influential variables and evaluating the models, it highlighted that hierarchical logistic regression provides more flexibility to decision-makers by allowing the evaluation of nested models formed by sub-variable groups separately. This approach can offer valuable insights to decision-makers in lending institutions, as it allows for the separate evaluation of various sub-variable groups, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of the key determinants of loan approval. By prioritizing specific variables or groups of variables, this methodology facilitates a more comprehensive analysis of the complex relationships between different factors, leading to more informed and data-driven decision-making. It is crucial, however, to ensure the appropriate application of the methodology and the continuous validation and testing of the hierarchical logistic regression models with new datasets to maintain their effectiveness and relevance in the dynamic lending landscape.

OFOR, DARLINGTON NNABUGO, PROF. OSI S. AKPOGHOMEH, DR. GIFT OKEAH CHUKWU

DOI: https://doi.org/10.56293/IJMSSSR.2023.4707

ABSTRACT: This study aims to investigate the impact of reporting systems on the operations of third-party logistics companies. Data for the study was collected from both primary and secondary sources, using a questionnaire as the data collection instrument. The study population consists of 35 maritime Third Party Logistics companies. We distributed 300 questionnaires and successfully retrieved 273 correctly filled ones. We analyzed the empirical data using Spearman Correlation statistics, which yielded a correlation value of 0.993. This indicates a strong positive relationship between the absence of reliable reporting mechanisms and the performance of third-party logistics in the study area. The calculated P-value is 0.000, which is less than the critical P-value of 0.01. According to our decision rule, since the P-value is less than the critical P-value of 0.01, there is a statistically significant relationship between reporting systems and the operations of third-party logistics. Therefore, we reject the null hypothesis (H0), which suggests there is no statistically significant relationship. The results of this study explicitly highlight the operational challenges of reporting systems faced by third-party logistics companies in the maritime industry. Our findings from data gathering, evaluation, and analysis indicate that timely reporting systems significantly affect the operations of third-party logistics in Nigeria. Therefore, we conclude that an effective reporting process is essential for the efficient and effective operations of third-party logistics firms in Nigeria. Based on our findings, we recommend that third-party logistics companies should ensure their reporting systems are efficient, provide detailed information, are easily understood, and adhere to time-bound principles. Additionally, they should invest in state-of-the-art equipment for reporting in their business operations to avoid operational failures.

10. The influx of irregular migrants as a challenge to security in Nigeria

DOI: https://doi.org/10.56293/IJMSSSR.2023.4710

ABSTRACT: The challenge of irregular migration has been a source of concerns to different countries, regional bodies and some international organizations. There is no doubt about the fact that irregular migration has political and security implications for host or destination countries. In most cases, irregular migration generates cross border crimes. This is essentially because the activities of individuals who engage in cross border crimes have been causing threats to the security of different nations. In Nigeria, it has been established that the porous borders and its relative economic prosperity compared to other West African countries have continued to attract many irregular migrants from the neighbouring countries. Over the years, in Nigeria, the government has been concerned on the effects of the high rate of cross border crimes in West Africa. Thus, the argument is that as a result of irregular migration Nigeria is witnessing cross border crimes, such as human trafficking, drugs trafficking, arms trafficking, child slavery, armed robbery, armed banditry, insurgency and other forms of conflicts. Also, it can be stated that as long as irregular migration continues to increase in Nigeria it will affect socio-economic and political development of the country. It is against this backdrop that this paper interrogates the influx of irregular migrants as a challenge to security in Nigeria.

16. THE RELATIVE IMPACT OF MONETARY POLICY AND FISCAL POLICY ON GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT IN NIGERIA

Gabriel. Osakwe Ikediashi, Christopher. Oribo. Orubu, Titus. Olufemi. Awogbemi

DOI: https://doi.org/10.56293/IJMSSSR.2023.4716

ABSTRACT: The Nigerian economy has been frontally constrained by unsteady GDP growth rates with episodes of recession, and other unimpressive socio-political and economic indices over the past three decades. The situation has become aggravated by the identifiable cases of fiscal and monetary distortions, macroeconomic shocks and gaps in our budgetary provisions that are evident in recurring deficit budgets, fiscal crises, and unsustainable debt profile. The persistence of these problems has, unarguably, impacted negatively on the overall economic performance of Nigeria, and this begs the question of the potency of the use of monetary policy and fiscal policy in addressing our targeted macroeconomic problems. Spurred by the need to finding policy solutions to these problems, this study empirically examines the relative impact of fiscal policy and monetary policy in stimulating gross domestic product in Nigeria. The achieve the study objectives, annual time series secondary data spanning from 1983 to 2021 were empirically analyzed using Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) estimation after the unit root text revealed a mixed order of integration. The result of the long and short run dynamics revealed that Total Government Expenditure (TOGE) has a positive and statistically significant relationship with GDP in Nigeria. Also, Broad Money Supply (MPMS) and Open Market Operations (MPOM) have positive and statistically significant relationships with GDP within the study period. The study concludes that in the short and long run, monetary policy and fiscal policy play significant roles in stimulating GDP growth in Nigeria. However, in relative terms, fiscal policy is more potent than monetary policy in Nigeria within the review period. The study, therefore, recommends that for the attainment of macroeconomic goals and sustainable economic development effective coordination of monetary and fiscal policy tools should be encouraged for consolidated socio-political and economic gains.
